Balance of Opposites
February, 2015
Lately, I've been fascinated with "the balance of things", contemplating the delicate interplay of opposites and the seemingly paradoxical nature of this life. There are so many essential dualities we embody as human beings. Just as the Yin Yang sign shares a piece of the contrasting color within itself, the symbol describes how apparently opposite or contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected, and interdependent. Here are a few that have recently been captivating me:
Tapping into the still point within dynamic movement
Staying committed yet also unattached to outcome
Remaining fully engaged yet deeply at peace with what is
Finding stability while simultaneously remaining fluid
Dancing with the delicate balance of effort and ease
Grounding down while unfurling open
Filling and emptying completely with each inhale and exhale
Resting in the space between fear and courage
Experiencing the beauty of repetition with the freshness of beginner's mind
Loving deeply while knowing that all that I love will die at some point
How do we, as human’s hold these inherent, diametrically opposed forces in harmony as we move through life? That is the inquiry that lives within me currently... and the answer again, lies within the question.
Rilke says "....have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves. Don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.”
